DR SMETANA: MAD SCIENTIST! Much in the way Dr. Frankenstein played in the lab reanimating stitched together limbs from fresh corpses that he managed to unearth from the recently deceased, Andreas Smetana Link invents new „mutant warriors‰ by compositing his photography and twisting reality into completely new bodily forms by combining it with computer generated effects. This artful mastery can be easily recognized in the commercial campaign, Microsoft X-Box, he shot for McCann Sydney as well as a new campaign for the US counterpart, McCann San Francisco. The first round of this campaign shows two fantastical creations. One is of a scrawny adolescent boy who becomes well-equipped with Vin Diesel-looking arms stitched onto his body, turning him into a fierce fighting machine. The other has been turned into a modern Icarus, with a pair of wings attached to his body, giving him supernatural flying abilities. We can rest assured that Smetana is certainly not short on ideas and we expect to see his next generation of mutants popping up sometime soon. Smetana’s already had a busy year.
